Disheartening as it is to relate, it looks increasingly clear that somebody wants to provoke a return to war in Sri Lanka. It goes without saying that this would be very much against the wishes and interests of the majority of the Tamil and Sinhalese people there.
Let’s hope for happier news from there in 2006.

From one side of a one-sided discussion overheard in a Nigerian Internet/money transfer/photocoy/travel shop (hybrid businesses are booming in Camberwell), just after the chestnut about the pain of childbirth being a punishment for original sin:
“Well, I studied sociology and anthropology, so I know what I am talking about. And, ah, paleontology. And the thing about Darwin’s evolution is, later on in his life, there’s a lot of evidence that he was in fact mentally unstable.”
