Reasons to believe

'We must believe in progress because it hasn't happened yet.' So said Franz Kafka, or so they say he said. 'Believing' he also said, in a diary, 'means liberating the indestructible element in oneself, or, more accurately, being indestructible, or, more accurately, being.'

Since one or two people made positive noises about my picture of the steps and the sea, and since it's raining and I've been busy so there aren't any new photos to show you, here are the same steps from another angle.

On the offchance this leaves you in the mood for black & white photography, try these portraits of French car drivers looking cross yet quite stylish in traffic.
