Illusion of progress

I got carried away with these steps, examining them from all angles, meandering around like a dog identifying where and how to lie down for a snooze. A pro would have thought to line up the horizon properly, but, as the Emperor Franz Josef so regularly and disarmingly puts it in Amadeus, 'there it is'.
The glum title to this post is a reference to a set of essays by John Gray (the one that is the antithesis of that Mars/Venus other one). He can be infuriatingly provocative and smug as he demolishes the ideas so many hold dear, but it's stimulating stuff, no question. Try this one on the entertainment economy, celebrity and dandyism, for example, which provides a few incidental insights on blogging.
